    2009 Festival and Institute

    The 2009 program will begin May 18 and finish June 12, allowing students ample time for other summer activities.

    2009 Expenses, and Course Credit

    Musicians who are chosen as a Young Artist of the 2009 Asolo Song Festival will be awarded an Asolo Fellowship, currently valued at $950, bringing the total four-week program cost to $4250. Unlike some programs, the program fees cover ALL of the following:
    * four weeks of lodging in a secure, beautiful, modern campus, with gym, pool, and internet access.
    * three excellent Italian meals per day
    * numerous ongoing private lessons, coachings, and masterclasses with faculty and guest artists
    * an astonishing faculty/Young artist ratio: approximately one faculty member for every 3 Young Artists!
    * performances at a wide variety of venues, from the historic Teatro Duse, to the Loggia in the main square of beautiful Asolo. A typical festival experience will include 6-8 performances and participation in 3-4 masterclasses.
    * University Course Credits
    * activity/excursion fees for a multitude of excursions, including opera-house tours, wine tastings, and several fine dining experiences.
    * facility usage fees, laundry tokens
    * one semester of recital attendance credit

    Very limited travel grants and assistantships may also be available for pianists and singers

    Admissions Requirements and Audition Tapes

    Any musician who will be 18 by the beginning of the program may apply. Acceptance to the program is dependent primarily on musical maturity. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. Space is extremely limited, so apply early. Applications are not reviewed until all materials are submitted. Although we encourage electronic submission of audition recordings by email, audition CDs and official transcripts must be submitted by mail. The remainder of the CIMBA summer application should be completed electronically, and we ask that you either upload your brief performance resume there, or send it as an email attachment.
    A recorded audition (CD or emailed Mp3) including at least three selections (total length must not exceed 20 minutes) must be emailed or sent to the Consortium Office.
    Audition MP3s or CD:
    * Vocalists: three selections; at least two from art song repertoire, one non-English.
    * Pianists: at least two art-song selections (with a vocalist), solo repertoire is optional.

    * Qualified musicians may make individual arrangements for alternative audition formats.

    Artists are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to avoid a $100 late application fee.

    A complete application consists of:

  • $30 non-refundable application fee;
  • $400 deposit payable to the University of Iowa (this will not be charged until student has been accepted and has confirmed his/her intent to attend; the deposit is fully refundable until 3/15);
  • On-line CIMBA application (graduate students should also complete this undergraduate summer application; see below);
  • Brief performance resume (including a list of current repertoire) to be uploaded with on-line application;
  • Audition MP3s or CD: three selections; at least two from art song repertoire, one non-English. Piano audition CDs should include at least two art-song selections, performed with a vocalist, solo repertoire may also be included, but is not required. Qualified musicians may make individual arrangements for alternative audition formats.
  • Official Transcripts (not required for University of Iowa or Florida State University students).In addition:
  • Students will need a valid US passport or appropriate documentation from their country of citizenship. Non-US citizens should check with their embassies to see if they need a visa to visit Italy and other European countries.
  • Students must sign a liability release form that includes medical release and certification of health insurance coverage.
  • Students will be expected to adhere to acceptable behavioral norms.Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
    1. Graduate applicants should complete the summer undergraduate application regardless of the fact that they are graduate students.
    2. Non-UI students wishing to earn graduate level credit must also complete a Non-Degree Seeking Application to UI’s School of Graduate Studies. The Graduate School requires official transcripts (undergraduate and graduate or a special letter from their graduate school) and a $30 application fee in the form of a check.
    For this reason, the $400 deposit may be paid via check or credit card but it must be separate from the application fee so that we can forward it on to the Graduate School.
